ABOUT THE ARTIST

Founded in 1999, the Bach Consort Wien under the leadership of Rubén Dubrovsky has developed into one of the most important Baroque ensembles in Austria. He has given concerts at numerous festivals and concert halls such as the Musikverein in Vienna, the Theater an der Wien, the Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Brucknerhaus in Linz, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Esterhazy Castle in Eisenstadt, Summer in Carinthia, the Baroque Days in Melk Abbey, the Händel Festival in Halle, the Palau de la música in Valencia and Barcelona, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, and at the Varaždin Baroque Evenings. Bach Consort Wien has remained faithful to its chamber music roots to this day. The impressive cultures of pre-Columbian South America, the Spanish settlers with their Baroque music, the melodies and rhythms brought by African slaves - all this is united in the Vidal program that takes us on a fascinating journey to 16th century Latin America, in the age of colonization. The encounter and interpenetration of the three cultures, and the richness of the areas conquered by Europeans, such as gold deposits, created favorable conditions for the flourishing of musical life from Mexico to Argentina. Also, music became the language used by missionaries to communicate with the indigenous inhabitants of tropical forests. Dance forms such as sarabande, zamacueca, passacaglia, folia began to develop. Despite the passage of time, the hypnotic character of these dances, as well as the melancholy of the songs, seduce listeners equally today.
