ABOUT THE ARTIST

Alexander Gadjiev is one of the most prominent pianists of his generation, an artist whose “improvisational instincts and impressive analytical power bring everything he touches to life, supported by a technique that knows no difficulty, with an exceptionally refined sense of nuance and tone color” ( Gramophone ). Born in Gorizia, on the Italian-Slovenian border, into a family of musicians and piano pedagogues, he grew up in an environment marked by the encounter of cultures, languages, and traditions that greatly shaped his artistic identity. He was the cultural ambassador of Gorizia-Nova Gorica as the European Capital of Culture 2025, and in 2023 he received the Prešeren Award, Slovenia’s highest award for artistic achievement.

He is a laureate of important piano competitions; the first prize at the 2021 Sydney International Piano Competition, the second and special prize Krystian Zimerman at the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, the first place and the audience award at the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition, and the victory at the World Piano Masters in Monte Carlo. From 2019 to 2021, he was a member of the BBC New Generation Artist program. The Terence Judd Prize in 2022 brought him engagements with the Hallé Orchestra. After his debut performance at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino festival with Zubin Mehta, he was invited again to perform in June 2024, and he also made his debut at the Vienna Musikverein with the Slovenian Philharmonic.

The concert was realized with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute in Zagreb.
