ABOUT THE ARTIST

Danijel Detoni began his musical education in Zagreb in the class of Olga Detiček at the Vatroslav Lisinski Music School, and continued in the classes of László Baranyay and Balázs Kecskés at the Liszt Ferenc University of Music in Budapest and Itamar Golan at the Paris Conservatory. He also gained his knowledge by working with renowned artists such as Pnina Salzman, Emanuel Krasovsky, Hamsa al-Wadi, Felix Gottlieb, Pál Éder and Dénes Várjon. As a soloist and chamber musician, he has appeared at prestigious festivals such as the Warsaw Autumn, the Zagreb Music Biennale, Musica Danubiana in Ljubljana, the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the Osor Music Evenings, Julian Rachlin & Friends, Transeuropéenes in Rouen, Schleswig-Holstein in Hamburg, ReMusica in Pristina, Carniarmonie in Udine and Trieste Prima in Trieste. He has collaborated with artists such as Katarina Livljanić (as a member of the Dialogos ensemble), Radovan Vlatković, Ivana Lazar, Kajana Pačko, Boris Brovtsyn, Itamar Golan, Gábor Boldoczki, Krešimir Stražanac, Irvin Venyš, Boris Andrianov, David Aaron Carpenter, Enrico Dindo, and ensembles such as the Zagreb Saxophone Quartet, Budapest Strings, UMZE Chamber Orchestra, Dušan Skovran Chamber Orchestra, etc. He has been a passionate chamber musician since his early days: in April 2003, in a duo with violinist Márta Deák, he won the Leó Weiner National Competition in Budapest, and in August 2006, he won the Isman Award from the Israeli Foundation for an exceptional interpretation of Ligeti's music. The Croatian Music Youth declared him the best young musician of 2008. In the same year, his solo album with selected works by Dubravko Detoni was released by the Croatia Records record company. The same label also released the album Journey through Europe in 2014 in collaboration with cellist Kajana Pačko, and the Belgian label Le Chant de Linos released their second joint album in 2018. Since 2009, he has been teaching piano, and since 2015, piano and chamber music at the Academy of Music, University of Zagreb.
