ABOUT THE ARTIST

Mathieu van Bellen, violin
Ori Epstein, cello
Omri Epstein, piano

The Busch Trio has become one of the leading international piano trios in recent years. It consists of Mathieu van Bellen, violin, and the brothers Ori Epstein, cello, and Omri Epstein, piano. Their paths crossed during their studies at the Royal College of Music in London; they became inseparable friends, and playing in the trio began spontaneously in 2012. All three, as soloists, have won numerous awards at international competitions and graduated from prestigious music academies in the United Kingdom. They took their name, Trio Busch, from Mathieu's violin, the ex-Adolf Busch from 1783, built by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini. The celebrated violinist Adolf Busch is also a great role model for them, among other things because he, with pianist Rudolf Serkin and cellist Hermann Busch, recorded Franz Schubert's Piano Trio in E flat major on a legendary recording, one of the most important works for such an ensemble and the centerpiece of the Busch Trio's repertoire. Great sensitivity and sensitivity and "making music with ease"
(The Times) are characterized by their approach, which also includes playing stringed instruments with gut strings, although they do not strictly adhere to the principles of historically informed performances. The reason for this decision is that gut strings allow for a different way of articulation and a sound that cannot be achieved with modern metal strings. (Ori Epstein plays an 1815 cello by Giovanni Battista Ceruti) They record for the Alpha Classics label; their recordings of works by Antonín Dvořák, Franz Schubert, Ravel and Shostakovich were praised. Recordings of all trios by Ludwig van Beethoven are also being prepared, which will be released in the following years as a five-fold album. The trio performed in Osor in 2022, and their performance of Ivo Maček's Romantic Trio was awarded the Daniel Marušić Festival Award.
